The lifelong search for the right equipment...

posted by Douglas_goodall on September 09 2009

From the time I knew playing guitar was important to me, I have known it was desirable to have good equipment. I knew there was no substitute for skill and practice, but I wanted equipment that would allow me to sound as good as I can and not make things harder. Of course I started out like most other musicians with financial constraints on what I could afford to invest in my musical hobby.

Only now at age 55 am I feeling satisfied and although I have had dozens of guitars and amplifiers over time, the set I have now, an acoustic guitar, and acoustic amp, an electric guitar, and electric amp, and a smattering of live sound equipment. For me at least it is more important to have at least one guitar that I can love without reservation and can depend on when I pick it up to play. It seems for me that it is not about how many but the degree of satisfaction that is important.

I completely agree.  It is really all about finding that instrument that speaks to you and using it to share your gifts.  My trouble is I keep finding more instruments that speak to me :)
